CLTV 36 – a breakthrough in the region
Wednesday, March 19, 2008

It was in March 2007 when the seemingly silent airwaves of regional television were broken with the premiere telecast of CLTV 36. From that time on, the people of Central Luzon can’t get off the new habit of watching CLTV 36.

The new free UHF TV station is operated by Central Luzon Broadcasting Corporation, the same company behind DWRW 95.1 (2007 Golden Dove Awardee for best FM radio station) in 1995.

CLTV 36, the first ever regional television station in the country, aired its first news program, CLTV Balitaan.

Anchored by veteran newscaster John Susi (also the host of the most watched public affairs program, Hamon: Central Luzon) along with four field reporters, Hervee Faustino, Jane Manalese, Jodi Mercado and Pritz Olalia, the take off – though technically difficult – was made easy by the clamor of the viewers for more. The well-watched Eleksyon sa Rehiyon proved the eagerness of communities in CL to get connected to what is happening in the region. The support of viewers pushed the growth of the news team adding Doris Bigornia as a co-anchor, eventually replaced by Dianne dela Fuente-Tiongson.

News and public affairs programs were also not enough to sustain the information and entertainment expected by the viewers, who wanted a taste of local flavor. The hip magazine show Y-fi (with Patrizia Asuncion, Aumar Aguilar and Yso del Rosario) quenched the thirst of the youth viewers, while Simpleng Usapan (hosted by Noel Jorolan) has lighten up the moods of the middle-aged. Quick answers to health questions was provided for by the show with the famous UST doctor couple, William and Salve Olalia.

CLTV 36 primarily aims to solidify the even provinces of the region by information dissemination. The network is now moving to higher grounds by enhancing its programming to better serve the CL viewers. In the coming months, more shows are about to be launched. Topping the list is WAGI, a show especially for women. It will be hosted by Ms. Sonia Soto and will air its pilot episode on March 26, Wednesday, right after CLTV Balitaan.

The witty Perry Pangan is soon to fill your nights with sensible laughter through a comedy talk show for which he is known for and loved by everybody.
